Breast Procedures Miami Plastic Surgery
The classic Mommy Makeover includes some type of rejuvenation of the breasts as pregnancy and breast feeding often result in significant changes in the appearance of the breasts. Typically overall volume is reduced, skin thins and loses elasticity and after stretching and expanding, the skin remains excessive and redundant. These changes all contribute to a deflated and sagging appearance of the breasts. Correction of these typical changes can be done by breast augmentation, mastopexy (breast lift), augmentation mastopexy (breast lift with implant), or breast reduction. Dr. Polo listens carefully to each patient’s goals and expectations and customizes his surgical approach according to their individual physical findings in order to meet those goals and achieve the best possible aesthetic outcome.
Breast Augmentation
For some women, the post-pregnancy and breast feeding changes are not so severe. The skin elasticity is better preserved and there is a lesser amount of skin laxity and excess. For these patients, restoring and enhancing volume, refilling of the skin redundancy and lifting of the nipple and areola can all be achieved with implant placement alone. Dr. Polo performs breast augmentation utilizing multiple incisional approaches and techniques including periareolar, inframammary and transaxillary-endoscopic, and is experienced in the use of all FDA approved implants. In addition, for those patients who desire enhanced breast volume without the use of prosthetic implants, Dr. Polo may recommend augmentation utilizing the patient’s own fat for those who are appropriate candidates.
Dr. Polo has the expert knowledge and skills required to recognize appropriate candidates and to employ advanced techniques. He will help each individual patient find the best breast augmentation technique to meet their goals and achieve a superior result.
Breast Reduction
Some women may have always had a larger breast size than they were comfortable with, and following pregnancy and breast feeding, stretching and loss of elasticity has resulted in sagging without significant volume loss. For these patients, a breast reduction may be the indicated procedure with their mommy makeover. Breast reduction surgery utilizes similar techniques and achieves the same aesthetic goals as breast lift procedures by lifting the breast higher on the chest, reducing excess skin, and reducing and repositioning the nipple and areola. Dr. Polo has extensive experience with all types of breast reduction techniques, including: superior, medial and inferior pedicle; vertical and anchor incision; and liposuction breast reduction.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift)
Following pregnancy and breast feeding, some women develop skin laxity and redundancy without significant volume loss. Other women may prefer to undergo breast rejuvenation without the use of prosthetic implants. For these patients, Dr. Polo will likely recommend a mastopexy, or breast lift procedure alone.
Breast lift procedures involve incisions of increasing length as the degree of sagging or ptosis increases. When minimal skin removal is necessary a mastopexy can be performed with incisions only around the outer edge of the areola. When more extensive skin tailoring is required for a greater amount of redundancy then vertical/lollipop incision or anchor incision mastopexy techniques are required.

Augmentation Mastopexy
(Breast Lift with Implant)
Following pregnancy and breast feeding, some women develop skin laxity and redundancy with significant volume loss. One limitation to simple mastopexy procedures is recreating adequate fullness in the upper part of the breast. Simultaneous placement of implants can overcome this limitation. All types of implants, including silicone gel or saline, round or shaped, and with varying dimensions and volume may be used. A variety of mastopexy techniques may also be utilized by Dr. Polo, including periareolar, vertical (lollipop) and anchor incision lifts. These skin tailoring procedures lift the nipple and areola to a more appropriate position and tailor the skin around the new shape created by the implant. For patients who wish to avoid use of implants, Dr. Polo may utilize other advanced techniques to further improve their breast shape. Dr. Polo has extensive experience with use of synthetic (i.e. Galaflex) and biologic (i.e. Alloderm, Strattice) grafts, and use of autologous fat grafting in breast surgery. These techniques are utilized as adjunctive procedures to enhance aesthetic results in breast reconstruction surgery, and have now been adopted to address many common complications in aesthetic breast surgery.
